Who does the ROC ‘n Golf Tournament Benefit?
Meet our Beneficiary – BackPack Buddies
BackPack Buddies is a program that runs in several U.S. cities and seeks to provide children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year. The children are identified by school officials, then receive a backpack containing six well-balanced meals along with two healthy snacks at the end of every week.
All food is non-perishable. The food is placed in a backpack, so the need is less noticeable to other children. According to Feeding America’s “Map the Meal Gap 2020” report, North Carolina has approximately 19.3% food insecure children (443,040 children). The latest school year statistics shared from 2018-19, showed over 2,300 children were served, each week, across 72 schools in our area. This was a total of 80,000 backpacks full of food delivered to schools for children to take home.
